Helen Mounsey Counselling Services
Clients describe Helen as warm, thoughtful and direct. Whether you come as an individual, in a relationship or for professional supervision, counselling is a chance to get help with decisions for yourself and for your future.
She was a Family Court counsellor for the Ministry of Justice and has a special interest in families. Invariably, parenting and work commitments reduce couple time and can interrupt shared goals, closeness and trust.
A focus in relationship work often includes exloring the destructive or intrusive patterns we learned in childhood. These frequently become repeated in relationships and lead to frustration with ourselves or with our partner.
It is possible to make changes to these dynamics, as we seek a better connection with our loved ones.
Intimacy and sexuality
I have a special interest in working with intimacy and sexuality and the important part it plays in relationships and in life in general. I am a director and therapist for Sex Therapy New Zealand (STNZ).
I work with a range of adult trauma experiences including grief, loss, the impact of addictions and abuse. I am also registered with MSD and CYF if financial assistance for individual therapy is required.
For a number of years, I wrote newspaper columns about relationships, intimacy and sexuality. They are an easy read, and are available.
My training is varied and includes the Developmental Model of Relationships, Imago Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), EFT (Emotionally Focussed Therapy) Narrative Therapy, EMDR.
